Billie Painschab (Jr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS) had 20 kills and hit .439 to lead the Augsburg College volleyball team to three victories and the title at the Northland College Invitational, held Friday and Saturday.
Augsburg swept all three opponents it faced at Northland to improve to 7-6 on the season. On Friday, the Auggies swept Northland 35-33, 30-23, 30-13. On Saturday, Augsburg dispatched Mount Mary (Wis.) 30-10, 30-8, 30-7 and finished the day with a 30-15, 30-14, 30-17 win over Finlandia (Mich.).
Painschab, Augsburg's team leader among its regulars in kills (121, 2.95 per game) and atack percentage (.264), had 12 kills and hit .400 (two errors in 25 attempts) against Northland and had seven kills and hit .538 (no errors in 13 attempts) in the win over Finlandia. Painschab also had a team-high seven blocks (two solo) in the tournament.
All 15 Auggies saw action in the tournament.
Kristy Larson * (Sr., Pine Island, Minn.) had 15 kills and hit .263 with four blocks.
Sarah Bradley (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) had 14 kills and 20 digs, hitting .200. Bradley had 11 kills and 10 digs against Northland.
Britt Bogner (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) had 12 kills and hit .250.
Katie LaGrave (Fr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had nine kills and seven blocks (two solo).
Linnea Evans * (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had eight kills and 18 digs.
Setter
Alexis Johnson (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) contributed 73 assists (12.17 per game) and 23 digs on the weekend, playing in the Northland and Finlandia matches. Libero
Tina Quick (Fr., Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS) had 29 digs on the weekend.
Augsburg had 49 service aces as a team on the weekend, with Bogner leading the way with 10,
Haley Bower (Fr., Brainerd, Minn.) contributing eight and Johnson contributing five. All but one player had at least one service ace. Augsburg had 29 aces in the match against Mount Mary.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday (9/22) at 7:30 p.m., with a match at the College of St. Benedict.
