DULUTH, Minn. (9/25/04) --
Clarke Athman (Sr., St. Joseph, Minn.) scored his first collegiate hat trick, notching three goals as Augsburg College claimed its fourth victory in a row, a 4-1 victory over the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon.
Athman scored an unassisted goal in the 26th minute, added a goal from
Andrew Connor (Fr., Montague, Mich./North Muskegon HS) in the 39th minute and capped the hat trick with another unassisted tally in the 58th minute.
Ben Simonet (Fr., Stillwater, Minn.) scored his fifth goal of the season in the 82nd minute.
Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska HS) made 10 saves for the Auggies, now 6-2-1 overall.
With its sixth win, Augsburg has already claimed its most victories in a single season since 1997 (7-10-1). In its last four victories in a row, Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 16-2 margin.
Derek Eklund had the lone goal for St. Scholastica, now 6-2-0 overall. Adam Whitehead made eight saves for the Saints.
Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 20-17 margin, and claimed six corner kicks to St. Scholastica's four.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (9/28) at 4 p.m., with a game at St. Thomas. Augsburg is 1-1-1 in league play.
