MILWAUKEE, Wis. (9/3/04) -- Demetrius Banks scored a three-goal hat trick in the first 50 minutes of play, leading the Milwaukee School of Engineering to a 4-0 shutout win over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's soccer game on Friday evening at MSOE.
Banks scored twice in a six-minute span just before halftime, then scored his third goal of the game four minutes into the second half, giving the Raiders the comfortable lead. Velemir Terzic added an insurance goal in the 76th minute.
Augsburg outshot MSOE by a 14-13 margin, including a 6-5 margin in shots on goal. Augsburg also had seven corner kicks to MSOE's two. However, MSOE's Scott Petricek and Chris Shurtiff combined for the win in goal, each playing a half in the contest.
Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska HS) had just one save for the Auggies.
Mike Elcano (Sr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) had four shots for the Auggies, while
Alec Rabine (Fr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had three.
Mark Cohn (Fr., Anoka, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Aaron Riedel (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had two shots each.
Augsburg finishes its season-opening trip to Wisconsin with a contest at Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday (9/4) at 3:30 p.m. Augsburg's home opener is on Tuesday (9/7), hosting MIAC power Macalester, at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
