Another slow start for Augsburg, Concordia-Moorhead claims 78-52 victory.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/12/05) -- Jamie Visness (Sr., Hallock, Minn./Kisston Central HS) had 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and Tori Ehlert (Jr., Battle Lake, Minn.) had 13 points and seven rebounds, leading Concordia College-Moorhead to a 78-52 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Concordia jumped out to a 13-1 lead over the first 5:16 of play and never looked back, leading 41-18 at halftime and expanding the lead to as many as 32 points in the second half.

Concordia is now 6-6 overall, 4-3 in MIAC play. Augsburg remains winless at 0-11 overall, 0-8 in MIAC play.

All 14 Cobber players saw playing time in the game, and 11 scored. Anne Keeley (So., Grafton, N.D.) and Jessica Heintz (Fr., Bismarck, N.D./Century HS) had nine points apiece, with Keeley adding five rebounds. Melanie Hageman (Fr., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) had eight points and four rebounds, Mandy Pearson (Sr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) had six points, eight assists and two steals, and Amanda Levos (So., Casselton, N.D./Central Cass HS) had six points.

The Cobbers dominated in the first half, forcing 10 Augsburg turnovers and limiting the Auggies to just 21.2 percent (7-of-33) shooting from the field and just 14.3 percent (1-of-7) from beyond the three-point arc. Meanwhile, the Cobbers outrebounded the Auggies by a 26-19 margin in the stanza, and hit 50 percent (16-of-32) from the field and from beyond the arc (4-of-8).

In the game overall, Augsburg had 17 steals and hit just 27.0 percent (17-of-63) from the field, compared to 44.6 percent from the field (29-of-65) for Concordia.

Augsburg was paced by Katie LaGrave (Fr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS), who had her second career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kristina Lurken (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Alissa Blood (So., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had six points, three rebounds and two blocked shots.

Rachel Cherry (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) had five points and seven rebounds, Katie Kelsey (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) had five points, five rebounds and two steals, and Lia Ragozzino (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had five points and three blocked shots.

Both Augsburg and Concordia have home MIAC contests on Saturday (1/15) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Gustavus and Concordia hosting Bethel.
