Women's Basketball 1/15/05 -- Gustavus Adolphus 76, Augsburg 55

MINNEAPOLIS (1/15/05) -- Kristin Kachelmeyer (Sr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) and Bri Monahan (So., Hutchinson, Minn.) each had double-doubles, with Kachelmeyer scoring 19 points with 14 rebounds and Monahan scoring 12 points with 14 rebounds, leading Gustavus Adolphus College to a 76-55 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
A 17-0 run over a six-minute span in the first half enabled Gustavus to rally from an early 9-5 deficit to take a 22-9 lead, en route to 34-22 lead at halftime. The Gusties pulled away from there, leading by as many as 27 points in the second half.
Gustavus is now 9-3 overall, 7-2 in MIAC play. Augsburg remains winless at 0-12 overall, 0-9 in MIAC play.
All 13 Gustavus players saw playing time in the game, and eight scored, with four starters scoring in double figures. Jess Vadnais (Fr., Hudson, Wis.) scored 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while adding three assists and three steals. Lacy Skoog (Sr., Waconia, Minn.) had 13 points, seven assists and two steals, also connecting on three 3-pointers. Sara Boldt (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) had six points, three assists and two steals, and Erin Boese (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) came off the bench to score five points.
Augsburg was paced by
Katie Kelsey (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.), who scored 18 points with seven rebounds.
Rosinta Stromquist (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Hannah Bratzel (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Christ Household of Faith HS) had eight points, four steals and three rebounds. No other Augsburg player had more than four points in the game.
Gustavus hit 42.9 percent (30-of-70) from the field, while Augsburg hit 32.3 percent (21-of-65). Gustavus outrebounded Augsburg 49-45 and converted 21 points off of 24 Augsburg turnovers, compared to 11 points converted off of 19 Gustavus turnovers.
Augsburg returns to action on Monday (1/17) at 7:30 p.m., with an MIAC game at St. Benedict. Gustavus hosts St. Benedict on Wednesday (1/19) at 7:30 p.m.
