MINNEAPOLIS (1/21/05) --
Jocelyn Cookson (Jr., Edina, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) scored both goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed their fifth win in their last six games, a 2-1 triumph over the College of St. Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Amanda Bockmann (Fr., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) made 24 saves in goal before allowing a goal in the final minute of play to score the victory for Augsburg, now 9-4-2 overall, 6-3-0 in MIAC play.
Sarah Wilson (So., Fairmont, Minn.) scored in the final minute for St. Benedict, now 4-10-0 overall, 4-5-0 in MIAC play.
Cookson scored her first goal of the game on the power play, firing the puck across the crease and off a pass in front from
Stacy Anderson (So., Lafayette, Calif./Marina HS) at the 8:45 mark of the first period.
Her second goal came at the 3:52 mark of the second period, as she took a pass from Melynda Kleewein (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) and stuffed the puck from the side of the net.
The Blazers cut the lead to one goal late in the game, as Wilson scored at the 19:16 mark off assists from Erin Baldwin (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Kristi Fairchild (So., Iron, Minn./Hibbing HS).
Augsburg outshot St. Benedict by a 29-25 margin. Chelsie Kahlhamer (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) made 27 saves for the Blazers.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/22) at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn.
