Critter Nagurski (So., International Falls, Minn.) scored two power-play goals and added an assist for a three-point night for Augsburg College, while John Egge (So., Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) had a goal and two assists for St. Olaf College, as the teams played to their second straight tie on the weekend, a 3-3 draw in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey contest Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Egge gave the Oles a 3-2 lead on a goal from Teddy Bickel (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) at the 6:53 mark of the third period, but Nagurski tied the game on a power-play goal with 4:03 remaining in regulation time, on assists from
Aaron Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and
Danny Carlson (Fr., Roseville, Minn.).
Augsburg outshot St. Olaf 3-1 in overtime, with a blast by Nagurski in the closing seconds just missing going in the net. St. Olaf outshot the Auggies by a 35-29 margin in the game, with advantages of 18-9 in the first period and 12-3 in the third.
Augsburg is now 6-6-5 overall, 3-2-3 in MIAC play, with its third tie in its last four games. St. Olaf is now 6-5-4 overall, 1-3-2 in MIAC play.
St. Olaf got on the scoreboard first with two goals in a 5:16 span in the first period, both assisted by Egge. Bickel put the Oles on the board first, and Mike MacMillan (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) followed.
Augsburg tied the game with two goals in a 1:47 span of the second period, as the Auggies outshot the Oles by a 14-4 margin in the frame.
Jason Fleck (Fr., Camrose, Alberta/Camrose Composite HS) scored his second goal of the series from
Greg May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) at the 10:58 mark, and Nagurski notched his first goal of the game on the power play, from Johnson and Carlson, at the 12:45 mark.
Tony Ciro (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) made 32 saves for Augsburg, while Dan Kehler (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) made 26 saves for St. Olaf.
Both teams return to MIAC action with series next weekend. Augsburg faces Bethel, with Friday's (1/28) game at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Arena in Fridley, and Saturday's (1/29) game at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. St. Olaf is back in action with a Saturday-Sunday (1/29-30) series against St. John's, with Saturday's game at 7 p.m. in Northfield and Sunday's game at 2 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud
