Wendell scores twice as Augsburg blanks St. Scholastica 4-0!

MINNEAPOLIS (10/1/05) -- D.J. Wendell (Fr., Princeton, Minn./Charles M. Russell (Mont.) HS) scored his first two collegiate goals, while Andrew Seidel (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) recorded three assists, as Augsburg College claimed a 4-0 win over the College of St. Scholastica in a nonconference men's soccer game Saturday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Evan Fuhs (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) recorded his first collegiate shutout in goal for the Auggies, making two saves. Augsburg is now 4-6-1 overall, while St. Scholastica drops to 1-9-1 overall.

Ryley Teske (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Lutheran HS) also scored his first collegiate goal for the Auggies, while Ryan Kitzman (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) capped the scoring for the Auggies with a penalty kick in the second half.

Wendell put the Auggies on the board in the 11th minute, taking a long-ball feed from Seidel and sprinting for the opening goal. His other goal came in the 49th minute, completing a three-way play from Seidel and Teske.

Teske scored for the Auggies in the 31st minute, firing from the center of the penalty box on feeds from Seidel and Justin Turner (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS). Kitzman scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 19-10 margin. Alec Rabine (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had four shots for the Auggies, with Teske and Wendell adding three shots apiece.

Andy Solin (So., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) had three shots for St. Scholastica, with Scott Hunter (Jr., Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) adding two shots. Adam Whitehead (So., Pickering, Ont./Notre Dame CSS) made nine saves in 82 minutes in goal before being relieved by Andrew Petroski (Jr., Delano, Minn.).

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (10/5) at 4 p.m., with a nonconference game at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. St. Scholastica returns to action on Tuesday (10/4), hosting Bethel at 4 p.m.
