Wendell scores with 2:29 left in second overtime, Augsburg gains 1-0 victory at Bethel!

ARDEN HILLS , Minn. (10/21/05) -- D.J. Wendell (Fr., Princeton, Minn./Charles M. Russell (Mont.) HS) scored the game-winning goal with 2:29 left in the second overtime, and goalkeeper Evan Fuhs (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) recorded his second collegiate shutout, as Augsburg College claimed a 1-0 win over host Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Friday afternoon.

Wendell's game-winning goal helped Augsburg improve to 6-10-1 overall, 3-5-1 in MIAC play. Bethel drops to 6-8-0 overall, 1-7-0 in MIAC play.

Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 16-14 margin, including a 3-1 edge in the two overtime periods. Fuhs made six saves for Augsburg, while Dana Hanson made 10 saves for Bethel.

Andrew Seidel (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) had four shots for the Auggies, while Wendell and Andrew Connor (So., Becket, Mass./North Muskegon (Mich.) HS) had two shots apiece.

Reed Thunstrom and DJ Paulson had three shots each for Bethel, with Nathan Powell, Ryan Vander Veen and Bryce Bohne adding two shots each.

Bethel hosts St. Mary's in an MIAC contest on Tuesday (10/25) at 3 p.m., while Augsburg closes its season with a home game against St. Thomas next Friday (10/28) at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
