David Clements (So., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) scored his first collegiate hat trick, and
Critter Nagurski * (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) scored two goals, as Augsburg College claimed a 6-3 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at the Dunn County Arena.
Joe Haehn (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) also scored for Augsburg, now 3-0-0 on the season. Wisconsin-Stout is now 2-3-0 on the year, having lost its last three straight games.
As it did in its upset win over St. Norbert (Wis.) last Saturday, Augsburg got off to a quick start, scoring the first three goals of the game to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Clements scored his first goal just 1:18 into the game, and added his second and third goals as part of a four-goal second period for the Auggies. Clements scored at the 6:43 mark of the first period, then added a power-play goal at the 17:26 mark of the second frame. Haehn scored at the 6:13 mark of the second period on the power play.
Danny Carlson (So., Roseville, Minn.) had three assists for the Auggies, while
Dan Leopold (So., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) and
Danny Clements (So., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) had two assists each.
Colby Nichol (Fr., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) and
Aaron Johnson * (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also had assists for Augsburg.
Augsburg was outshot by a 36-30 margin, but Auggie goalie
Tony Ciro (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) claimed 33 saves to claim the win.
Scott Sissink and Justin Huth had a goal and assist apiece for the Blue Devils. Matthew Grasseschi also scored for Wisconsin-Stout, with Andrew Bader adding two assists. Josh Blair and Andy Wiesner also had assists.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (11/12) at 7:05 p.m. with a game at Wisconsin-River Falls. Wisconsin-Stout hosts St. John's on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
