Men's Hockey 11/12/05 -- Wisconsin-River Falls 7, Augsburg 4

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (11/12/05) -- Scoring four unanswered goals in the third period -- three on the power play -- the University of Wisconsin-River Falls rallied from a second-period deficit to claim a 7-4 triumph over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference menÂ's hockey game Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
Augsburg scored four goals in the second period to take a 4-3 advantage, but the Falcons matched the AuggiesÂ' efforts in the final frame to improve to 3-1-2 overall. Augsburg is now 3-1-0 on the season.
Wisconsin-River Falls has now won five of the last seven meetings (5-0-2) between the two schools, with the last Auggie win coming in the 1997-98 season.
Both teams had 33 shots in the contest, but Falcon goalie Dan Meneghin (Sr., Surrey, B.C.) came up with 29 saves to claim the victory. Augsburg goalie

The Falcons tied the game at 4-4 at the 6:35 mark of the third period, as Tyler Kostiuk (Jr., Cranbrook, B.C.) blasted a shot from the left point past Ciro. Josh Hansen (So., Austin, Minn.) assisted on the goal.
On a power play at the 9:48 mark, the Falcons took the lead for good, as Dustin Norman (Fr., South Delta, B.C.) blasted a shot from the left point through a screen and past Ciro. T.J. Dahl (So., Burnsville, Minn.) assisted on the goal.
The Falcons added to the lead at the 15:00 mark, with Derek Hansberry (Fr., Arvada, Colo.) scoring on the power play on an unassisted blast in the slot. Jim Henkemeyer (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) completed the scoring for the Falcons at the 16:23 mark with a goal from Kostiuk.
Aaron Johnson * (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS),
Danny Carlson (So., Roseville, Minn.),
Colby Nichol (Fr., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) and
Joe Haehn (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) scored for the Auggies in the second period, as Augsburg took a 4-3 lead into the locker room.
Down 1-0 after one period, Augsburg tied the game at the 5:39 mark of the second period, just seconds after a power play ended. Johnson flipped a shot to the right of the net over the glove of the River Falls netminder.
Brett Way (Fr., Grand Ledge, Mich.) and Nichol received credit for the assists.
The Falcons took advantage of a 5-on-3 power-play advantage to take the lead at the 7:39 mark of the second period. On a scramble in front of the net, Dahl found a loose puck through the crease and to the right of Augsburg goalie Ciro and deposited into the open net. Hansberry and Pat Borgestad (So., St. Paul, Minn.) received assists.
But just as quickly, Augsburg tied the game, with Carlson scoring off a draw from Johnson at the 9:04 mark. River Falls took the lead back just 15 seconds into a power play, with Borgstad scoring from Dahl at the 11:24 mark.
Augsburg scored on the power play at the 17:36 mark, with Nichol scoring from Haehn. NicholÂ's shot deflected off River Falls goalie Meneghin and trickled past him into the net.
Haehn put the Auggies in front for the first time in the game at the 19:43 mark on a 4-on-3 power play, as Haehn blasted home a one-timer in the slot off a pass from Johnson.
Critter Nagurski * (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) also received an assist.
River Falls scored to open the game at the 6:27 mark of the first period, as Joe Adams (So., Roseau, Minn.) stuffed the puck home off a rebound. Jared Sailer (Jr., Fernie, B.C.) and Kostiuk were credited with assists for the Falcons.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next weekend with a two-game series against Hamline University. FridayÂ's (11/18) game is at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, with SaturdayÂ's (11/19) game at 7 p.m. at Drake Ice Arena in St. Paul.
Wisconsin-River Falls opens Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend with home games against Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and against Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
