ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/18/05) -- Forward Kate Gay (Fr., Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) had a goal and two assists as Hamline University earned a point from Augsburg College for the first time in school history with a 4-4 tie in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at Drake Arena.

Trailing 3-2, the Pipers (1-0-2, 0-0-1 in the MIAC) came back to take the lead late in the third period. Defender Marie Gross (So., West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) tied the game at 3-3 with a wrister from the point at 6:03 of the third period. Forward Lindsy Eilertson (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) later deflected a shot from Gay past Auggie goaltender Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) to give Hamline a 4-3 edge at the 17:55 mark of the third period. Gay assisted on each of the Piper goals.

Augsburg (0-3-1, 0-0-1) came back and tied the game at 19:45 of the third. With Gross in the penalty box and Bockmann pulled for an extra skater, Brittany LeBlanc (So., Anoka, Minn.) scored a rebound goal to tie the game.

Augsburg had won the first 10 games of the series, dating back to the Pipers' inception in 2000.

The Pipers looked like they would get the outright win early, scoring two first period goals. Gay scored her first collegiate goal at 12:52 of the first period, and Emily Toenes (So., Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak HS) added an unassisted goal at 15:45 to give Hamline a two-goal lead.

Augsburg came back to score three straight in the second and third periods to take the lead. Samantha Farrell scored at 16:29 of the second period with Tiffany Magnuson (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) and Calla Lundquist (Sr., Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County HS) scoring in a span of 2:59 early in the third period.

Hamline outshot the Auggies 22-15 in the first two periods, but the Auggies held a 18-6 edge in shots on goal over the last 25 minutes of the contest.

Hamline netminder Rachael Young (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) made 29 saves while Bockmann stopped 24 shots for the Auggies.

The two teams will meet again at the Augsburg Ice Arena on Saturday (11/19) at 2:15 p.m.
