Augsburg plays to 3-3 overtime tie with Hamline.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/19/05) -- The Hamline University men's hockey team came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie visiting Augsburg College 3-3 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night at Drake Arena.

Hamline (0-4-2, 0-1-1 in the MIAC) trailed 3-2 heading into the third period, but defenseman Shane Wagner (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) scored the equalizer at 16:27 with a wrister from the point through traffic.

The two teams would skate to a tie despite both teams having power plays in the overtime session.

Augsburg (4-1-1, 1-0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first 2:44 of the game. Kyle Thompson (Fr., Surrey, B.C./Enver Creek HS) scored on the power play to make the score 1-0 1:35 into the game. Less than a minute later, Ian Bing (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn./Farmington HS) scored with a wrister from the top of the right faceoff circle.

Forward Dustin Fulton (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Breck HS) cut the lead in half heading into the first intermission with his third goal of the season.

The two teams exchanged power-play goals in the second period with Augsburg scoring at 6:10 on a Greg May (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) goal. Joe Long (Fr., Dayton, Minn./Elk River HS) scored at 16:11 to make the score 3-2. Augsburg was 2-for-8 on the power play. The Pipers were 1-for-6 with an extra skater.

Hamline netminder Cameron Voss (Fr., Shoreview, Minn./St. Thomas Academy HS) stopped 34 shots to earn his second tie of the season. Augsburg goaltender Tony Ciro (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had 29 saves.

Both teams will compete in the Division III College Hockey Showcase next weekend at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn. On Friday (11/25), Augsburg will face St. Scholastica at 4 p.m., while Hamline will face Finlandia (Mich.) at 7:30 p.m.
