MINNEAPOLIS (11/22/05) -- Claiming a 41-7 shots-on-goal advantage in the contest, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored four goals in the third period to break open its nonconference women's hockey game at Augsburg College on Tuesday night, claiming a 6-1 victory at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Six different Blugolds scored goals and nine players figured in the scoring, as the Blugolds improved to 2-5-0 on the season. Augsburg is now 1-4-1 overall.
Lauren Havard (Fr., San Angelo, Texas/Arapahoe HS), Karen Hebert (Jr., Lakeville, Minn./Holy Angels HS) and Martina Korinek (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a goal and assist each for the Blugolds, with Tara Hayner (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) and Amber Stevenson (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) adding two assists each.
Havard scored an unassisted goal at the 6:11 mark to give the Blugolds the early lead, but Augsburg answered shortly after the second period draw, with
Caryn Quist (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) scoring from
Tiffany Magnuson (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) just 15 seconds into the frame. However, Wisconsin-Eau Claire took the lead to stay at the 7:20 mark of the second period, as Sara Wehland (Fr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored from Jessie Boyles (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.).
Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored four times in the third period, outshooting Augsburg by a 19-2 margin in the frame. Kelly Ivey (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) scored from Hayner and Hebert at the 6:18 mark, with Hebert scoring from Hayner at the 8:32 mark.
The Blugolds scored two power-play goals to close the scoring, as Allie Campbell (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) scored from Stevenson and Korinek at the 9:16 mark, and Korinek scored from Stevenson and Havard at the 15:08 mark.
Heather Prochaska (So., Madison, Wis./East HS) made six saves to pick up the victory in goal for the Blugolds, with
Jena Kleis (So., Hastings, Minn.) collecting 35 saves for Augsburg in a losing effort.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a series against St. Mary's on Dec. 2-3. The Friday, Dec. 2 game will be at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, while the Saturday, Dec. 2 game will be at 7:05 p.m. in Winona, Minn. Wisconsin-Eau Claire returns to has a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series against Lake Forest (Ill.) on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3-4, with both games at 2 p.m. at the Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire.
