Augsburg ties St. Olaf for sixth straight time in series between teams, 2-2 in OT on Saturday.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/10/05) -- For the sixth straight time in the all-time men's hockey series between the two schools, Augsburg College and St. Olaf College played to an overtime tie, as the teams played to a 2-2 draw in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

The teams have tied in each of their meetings since the 2003-04 season, tying twice each year. Augsburg and St. Olaf played to a 4-4 overtime draw on Friday night. Augsburg extended its unbeaten streak against St. Olaf to 11 games (5-0-6) dating to the 2000-01 season.

Augsburg is now 5-4-3 overall, 2-1-3 in MIAC play. St. Olaf is now 2-5-3 overall, 1-3-2 in MIAC play.

Mitch Mudra (Jr., Edina, Minn.) opened the scoring for the Oles with a goal at the 15:01 mark of the first period, on an assist by Andrew Birkholz (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn./Breck HS).

Augsburg tied the game on Aaron Johnson *'s (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker at the 1:17 mark of the second period from Dan Leopold (So., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Danny Carlson (So., Roseville, Minn.).

St. Olaf took the lead back on Casey Dynan's (Fr., Orono, Minn.) first collegiate goal at the 10:49 mark of the second period, on an assist by Birkholz.

But Augsburg tied the game for good at the 14:03 mark of the second frame, as Kyle Thompson (Fr., Surrey, B.C./Enver Creek HS) scored from Colby Nichol (Fr., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) and Brett Way (Fr., Grand Ledge, Mich.).

Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 34-32 margin, including a 4-1 advantage in overtime. Tony Ciro (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) recorded 30 saves for Augsburg, while Dan Kehler (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) made 32 saves for St. Olaf.

Both teams now take a break for the holidays. Augsburg returns to action on Jan. 10 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, while St. Olaf returns to action on Jan. 7 with a 4:05 p.m. against Minnesota-Crookston at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn.
