Women's Hockey 12/10/05 -- Augsburg 3, St. Olaf 2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/10/05) --
Tiffany Magnuson's (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame HS) and
Brittney LeBlanc (So., Anoka, Minn.) had a goal and assist apiece, and
Christina Waller (Fr., Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) scored the eventual game-winning goal, as Augsburg College claimed a 3-2 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Augsburg rallied from a 2-1 deficit to improve to 3-5-2 overall, 3-1-2 in MIAC play. St. Olaf is now 5-4-0 overall, 3-3-0 in MIAC play. The teams split their weekend MIAC series.
All the scoring took place in the second period. Magnuson opened the scoring with her team-best seventh goal of the season at the 5:20 mark, on an assist by
Britt Pennington (Sr. St. Cloud, Minn./Tech HS). St. Olaf tied the game at the 6:41 mark, as Claire LeDuc (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Visitation HS) scored from Katie Bennett (So., Edina, Minn.).
St. Olaf took the lead on a Tessa Christensen (Fr., Albert Lea, Minn.) goal from Lindsay Boeser (So., Lakeville, Minn.) at the 12:09 mark, but Augsburg tied the game 13 seconds later, as LeBlanc scored from
Jennilee Moe (So., Brookings, S.D./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS).
With a two-skater power-play advantage, Waller scored to put the Auggies ahead to stay at the 17:36 mark, on assists from LeBlanc and Magnuson.
Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 29-23 margin.
Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) had 21 saves for the Auggies, while Shannon Herrick (Fr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead HS) had 26 saves for the Oles.
Both teams are now idle for the holiday break and return to action the first weekend of January. Augsburg hosts Neumann (Pa.) on Jan. 6 at 7:05 p.m. and Jan. 7 at 2:15 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, while St. Olaf has a series at Wisconsin-Superior on Jan. 7 at 7:05 p.m. and Jan. 8 at 2:05 p.m.
