MINNEAPOLIS (12/2/05) -- Jessica Ribish (Jr., Elm Grove, Wis.) gave St. Mary's University the lead with a power-play goal in the second period, but
Katie Medd (So., Mankato, Minn./East HS) tied the game for Augsburg College with a goal in the third period, as the Auggies and Cardinals played to a 1-1 overtime tie in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg is now 1-4-2 overall, 1-0-2 in MIAC play, while St. Mary's is 1-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 in MIAC play. The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (12/3) at 7:05 p.m. at the SMU Ice Arena in Winona, Minn.
Ribish scored 11 seconds into a power play at the 7:56 mark of the second period off assists from Melissa Mondo (Jr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and Jill Rhody (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.).
Medd tied the game on a sprint at the 5:20 mark of the second period, on a feed from
Samantha Farrell (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Tartan HS).
St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 46-20 margin, including a 4-1 advantage in overtime. But Augsburg goalie
Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) came up with 45 saves to record the tie for the Auggies.
Nikki Jung (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) made 19 saves for St. Mary's.
Both teams had power-play opportunities in the overtime, with Augsburg skaing with a player advantage for the first 1:32, and St. Mary's gaining a 2:39 power play after a major penalty was assessed against Augsburg. But neither team could score with the player advantage. Augsburg went 0-for-7 on the power play and St. Mary's went 1-for-6 in the game.
