Late first-half run sends Bethel to 89-61 win over Augsburg.

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (12/5/05) -- JoLynn Thielke (Jr., Holoway, Minn./Hancock HS) scored 15 points -- hitting 5-for-5 from three-point range -- and had six rebounds and three steals, leading Bethel University to an 89-61 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Monday night at Bethel's Robertson Center.

Jen Ahlberg (Sr., Milaca, Minn.) scored 15 points and had five assists for the Royals, now 5-0 overall, 2-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg is now 3-3 overall, 1-2 in MIAC play.

Trailing 24-21 with 7:46 left in the first half, Bethel outscored Augsburg 22-7 to take a commanding 43-31 halftime advantage. The lead never dipped below 13 points in the second half and was extended to as many as 32 points.

Sixteen Royals saw action in the game and 12 scored. The Royals hit 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the field, including 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from three-point range. Bethel outrebounded Augsburg by a 44-32 margin.

Emily Uzpen (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and Annegret Nautsch (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS) had nine points apiece, with Nautsch adding nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Betsy Stevens (Jr., Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had eight points and four rebounds, and Heather Davis (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had eight points and four rebounds.

Augsburg was led by Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), who had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 12 points, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

Jacci Mattern (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had eight points and five rebounds, and Rachel Cherry (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) and Alissa Blood (Jr., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored six points each.

Augsburg shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field, including 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) from three-point range.

Augsburg returns to action with a home MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (12/7) at Si Melby Hall against Carleton. The women's game is at 5:45 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. Bethel has a conference game at St. Benedict on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
