St. Olaf scores 11 seconds into OT for 6-5 win over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS (12/9/05) -- Lindsay Boeser (So., Lakeville, Minn.) tied the game with a goal with 56 seconds left in regulation time, then scored 11 seconds into overtime to give St. Olaf College a 6-5 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Boeser took three shots in rapid succession following the overtime draw, sending the third into the net for the game-winning goal for the Oles, now 5-3-0 overall, 3-2-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg, playing in its third straight overtime game and fourth in its nine games this season, is now 2-5-2 overall, 2-1-2 in MIAC play. The teams finish the MIAC series on Saturday (12/10) at 7 p.m. at the Northfield (Minn.) Ice Arena.

St. Olaf tied the game at 4-4 at the 4:20 mark of the third period on Melissa Sailor's (Fr., New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) first collegiate goal, but Augsburg took a 5-4 lead on Tiffany Magnuson's (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame HS) second goal of the game at the 7:41 mark.

Entering the final minute-and-a-half of regulation time, St. Olaf skated with its goalie pulled for an extra attacker, and Boeser tied the game on a goal from Susannah Brokl (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn/Breck HS) and Janae Fabini (So., Duluth, Minn./Warroad HS) at the 19:04 mark.

St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 34-23 margin. Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) had 28 saves for the Auggies, while Shannon Herrick (Fr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead HS) had 18 saves for the Oles.

Augsburg took a 3-2 lead after one period, as the Auggies notched goals from Jennilee Moe (So., Brookings, S.D./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS), Magnuson and Calla Lundquist (Sr., Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County HS), while Melissa Mueller (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Tessa Christensen (Fr., Albert Lea, Minn.) scored for the Oles.

Katie Medd (So., Mankato, Minn./East HS) gave the Auggies a 4-2 lead on a power-play goal at the 6:13 mark of the second period, but St. Olaf cut in to the advantage at the 16:40 mark of the second frame, as Brokl scored on a power-play goal.

Brokl had a three-point night for the Oles, with a goal and two assists, while Lindsay Weier (Sr., Menomonie, Wis.) had two assists. For Augsburg, Magnuson had a three-point night, with two goals and an assist, while Lundquist also had a three-point night, with a goal and two assists.
