Women's Basketball 2/9/05 -- Concordia-Moorhead 61, Augsburg 47

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/9/05) -- Anne Keeley led all players with 18 points and nine rebounds, leading Concordia College-Moorhead to its 12th straight women's basketball victory, a 61-47 triumph over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Wednesday night at Concordia's Memorial Auditorium.
Mandy Pearson added 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and five assists for the Cobbers, now 16-4 overall, 14-3 in MIAC play.
Augsburg, which drops to 3-18 overall, 3-15 in MIAC play, was paced by
Rosinta Stromquist (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS), who had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Katie Kelsey (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) added 10 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.
An 12-4 run to close the first half broke a 17-17 tie and gave Concordia a 29-21 lead at halftime, a lead the Cobbers would not relinquish the rest of the way. The Cobbers expanded the lead to as many as 19 points in the second half.
Concordia shot just 30.9 percent (21-of-68) from the field, while Augsburg hit 35.6 percent (21-of-59). The Cobbers connected on five 3-pointers to Augsburg's one, and also held a major advantage at the free-throw line, hitting on 14-of-19 from the charity stripe, compared to just 4-of-10 for Augsburg. Concordia also took advantage of 27 Augsburg turnovers, converting them into 15 points. Augsburg could manage just four points off of 24 Concordia turnovers.
Melanie Hageman added nine points for the Cobbers.
Amy Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) added seven points and two steals for the Auggies, while
Rachel Cherry (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) had six points.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday (2/12) at 1 p.m. with road games, as Augsburg travels to Gustavus and Concordia travels to Bethel.
