Augsburg falls on penalty kick in overtime, 3-2 at Loras (Iowa).

DUBUQUE, Iowa (9/10/05) -- Andy Zimmer connected on a penalty kick goal with 17 seconds left in overtime -- the second penalty kick in a nine-second span in the extra session -- as Loras College claimed a 3-2 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's soccer game at Loras' Faber-Clark Field.

Augsburg scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the second half -- the first two goals allowed by Loras in five games this season -- to force overtime, but two penalty kick attempts ended the game in the first overtime, sending the Auggies to 1-3 overall. Loras is now 5-0 overall.

Loras outshot Augsburg by a 35-9 margin, but Augsburg goalkeeper Pascaul Venter (Fr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) made 11 saves to keep the Auggies in the contest.

Loras scored in the ninth minute, when Steve Bischoff scored from Kevin Burberry. Tony Stehn added an unassisted tally in the 75th minute to give the host Duhawks a 2-0 lead.

However, Augsburg tied the game with two goals in a 5:45 span. Aaron Riedel * (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Justin Turner (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) scored unassisted goals in the 81st and 86th minutes, respectively.

The game included four yellow cards -- three against Augsburg and one on Loras -- and one red-card ejection of an Augsburg player.

Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/14) with a 3 p.m. game at St. Olaf. Loras hosts Augustana (Ill.) in nonconference play on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m
