Men's Soccer 9/14/05 -- St. Olaf 2, Augsburg 0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (9/14/05) -- Jacob Meyer (So., Madison, Wis./East HS) netted his third game-winner of the short season as the St. Olaf College men's soccer team downed Augsburg College 2-0 in the MIAC opener for both schools Wednesday at St. Olaf.
Meyer's goal came near the end of the first half off a free kick and a header from Faiz Abdirahman (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo). Meyer had second-half, game-winning goals against Martin Luther on Sept. 2 and Northwestern on Sept. 5.
St. Olaf added an insurance goal on Jacob Olsen's (Sr., Petosky, Mich.) goal from Brandon McCafferty (So., Great Falls, Mont.) in the 81st minute.
Eric Smith (So., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) made three saves to pick up the win.
Pascaul Venter (Fr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) took the loss for the Auggies in goal.
Augsburg was outshot by a 19-7 margin.
D.J. Wendell (Fr., Princeton, Minn./Charles M. Russell (Mont.) HS) and
Andrew Seidel (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) had two shots each for the Auggies.
The Oles (3-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC) play at St. John's on Saturday (9/17) at 4 p.m. Augsburg (1-4-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC) hosts Northwestern-Roseville in a nonconference game on Friday (9/16) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
