Augsburg falls 3-0 at nationally-ranked Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/27/05) -- Macalester College improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in men's soccer with its seventh win in a row, a 3-0 decision over visiting Augsburg College on Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium.

The Scots, who earlier in the day earned a spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas national Division III poll, outshot the Auggies 24-5 and had a corner kick advantage of 11-2.

Augsburg falls to 3-6-1 on the season, 1-2-1 in the MIAC. Augsburg saw its three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) come to an end.

The Scots received long-ball assists from Devin Homme (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and had single goals each from Michael Blythe (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.), Carson Gorecki (Fr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Magnus Oppenheimer (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden/Viktor Rydberg HS). For Gorecki, it was his first collegiate goal. Blythe's goal was his second and for Oppenheimer, his fourth.

Pascaul Venter (Fr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) started in goal for Augsburg, before being relieved by Evan Fuhs (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) in the second half. Fuhs made one save.

Macalester plays at Bethel in MIAC play on Saturday (10/1) at 1 p.m., while Augsburg hosts St. Scholastica in a nonconference match on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
