Watsabaugh scores twice, Augsburg dominates in 4-0 win over Northwestern-Roseville!

MINNEAPOLIS (9/6/05) -- Kelsey Watsabaugh (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored her first two collegiate goals, and goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) recorded her second career shutout in her third collegiate game, as Augsburg College dominated from start to finish in a 4-0 win over Northwestern College-Roseville in a nonconference women's soccer game Tuesday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Emily Anderson * (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) assisted on three of the four goals for Augsburg, which remained unbeaten at 2-0-1 on the season. Northwestern drops to 0-2-0 on the season, having been outscored 8-0 in its first two games.

Watsabaugh scored her first collegiate goal on a one-timer from the top of the penalty box, coming from a right-side feed by Anderson following a throw-in by Katie Medd (Fr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) in the 18th minute. Watsabaugh then followed in the 31st minute with her second goal of the game, taking a free kick from 25 yards away on an angle to the right of the goal, finding the top left corner of the net.

Augsburg scored twice in the second half to clinch the victory. Jackie Keller (So., Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS) scored on feeds from Anderson and Aili Brom-Palkowski (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the 55th minute, and Millie Suk * (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) notched her team-high fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute, completing a long downfield sprint from Anderson.

Augsburg dominated play throughout the game, outshooting Northwestern by a 39-6 margin, including a 23-4 advantage in the first half. Augsburg also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

DeGroot made two saves to record the shutout for the Auggies. Meanwhile, Northwestern goalkeeper Jada Glidden (So., Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) made 17 saves. Courtney Athman (Jr., St. Joseph, Minn.) and Angie Settle (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had shots on goal for the Eagles.

Augsburg embarks on a trip to Southern California this weekend, facing California Lutheran on Saturday (9/10) at 1:30 p.m. in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday (9/11) at 1 p.m. in Claremont, Calif. Northwestern hosts Cornell (Iowa) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.
