MINNEAPOLIS (9/7/05) --
Mark Cohn (So., Anoka, Minn./Blaine HS) claimed his first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals to lead Augsburg College to a 4-1 victory over Viterbo University (Wis.) in a nonconference men's soccer game Wednesday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Cohn scored twice on headers in the penalty box off of corner kicks by
Vinnie Brooks (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS), once in the fifth minute and again in the 69th minute. He added his third goal of the game by completing a half-field sprint off a pass from
Andrew Seidel (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) in the 72nd minute.
Alec Rabine (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) added a goal on a free kick in the 66th minute for the Auggies, now 1-2-0 on the season.
Viterbo, now 0-2-0 on the year, claimed its lone goal in the 84th minute, as Julian Cordova (So., Valarce, Argentina) scored on an assist from Charles Nassar (So., Rochester, Minn.).
Augsburg dominated play in the game, outshooting Viterbo by a 33-6 margin and claiming 10 corner kicks to Viterbo's one. Cohn had nine shots in the game, while Rabine and
Nicholas Stuber (Jr., Cadillac, Mich.) had four shots each. Eric Stifel (So., Des Moines, Iowa) had two shots for the V-Hawks.
Brett May (Sr., River Falls, Wis.) made 13 saves for Viterbo, while
Pascaul Venter (Fr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) made two saves for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to nonconference play on Saturday (9/10) with a 1 p.m. game at Loras (Iowa). Viterbo returns to action on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m., hosting Coe (Iowa).
