Bethel rallies for 3-2 win over Augsburg

FRIDLEY, Minn. (1/20/06) -- Tiffany Magnuson (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) scored twice for Augsburg College, but Bethel University rallied from a second-period 2-1 deficit to score a 3-2 win over Augsburg in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Columbia Arena.

Elicia Adams, Amy Beitzel and Anna Baumgarten scored goals for Bethel, now 3-8-1 overall, 3-6-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg is now 6-7-2 overall, 5-2-2 in MIAC play. The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/21) at 2:15 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Magnuson opened the scoring with a goal from Caryn Quist (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) at the 13:29 mark of the first period. Bethel followed with a power-play goal from Adams, on assists from Bethany Murphy and Sandra Felten, at the 15:26 mark.

In the second period, Magnuson put the Auggies ahead on a goal from Katie Medd (So., Mankato, Minn./East HS) at the 5:42 mark.

Bethel tied the game on Beitzel's goal from Lisa Kinney and Heidi Govednik at the 17:06 mark of the second period, then went ahead on Baumgarten's goal from Caitlyn Belcher at the 2:31 mark of the third period.

Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 41-25 margin. Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) made 38 saves for Augsburg, while Beth Spurrier made 23 saves for Bethel.
