FRIDLEY, Minn. (1/21/06) -- Brad Peterson (Fr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), Jon Kramer (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) and Kent Bostrom (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a goal and assist apiece, leading Bethel University to a 6-2 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday night at the Columbia Arena.
Bethel went 3-for-6 on the power play to claim the series sweep and improve to 4-11-0, 2-4-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg dropped its third straight game and fourth in its last five starts to fall to 6-8-3 overall, 2-3-3 in MIAC play.
Augsburg held a 2-1 lead after one period, behind goals from
Critter Nagurski * (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) and
Aaron Johnson * (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS). Each assisted on the other's goal, with
Chad Georgell (Jr., North Pole, Alaska/Fairbanks Lathrop HS) also assisting on Johnson's goal.
Bethel pulled away in the final two periods, scoring five unanswered goals. Kramer, Fletcher Emerson (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Bostrom scored for the Royals in the second period, and Ryan Adams (Jr., Litchfield, Minn.) and Peterson scored in the third period. Jeff Balvin (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) had the other Royal goal in the first period.
Neal Carlson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) and Josiah Matuszewski (So., Granite Falls, Wash.) had two assists apiece for Bethel.
Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 28-24 margin. Dustin Thompson (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) made 22 saves for Bethel, while
David Nash (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had 22 saves for Augsburg.
Both teams return to MIAC play next weekend. Augsburg faces St. Thomas, while Bethel faces St. John's. Friday's (1/27) games at 7 p.m. see Augsburg and Bethel hosting their opponents, while each goes on the road on Saturday (1/28) at 7 p.m.
