Men's Hockey 1/27/06 -- St. Thomas 5, Augsburg 3

MINNEAPOLIS (1/27/06) -- Nick Harris (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) scored two third-period goals, and Kevin Rollwagen (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had a goal and two assists, leading the University of St. Thomas to a 5-3 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Treye Kettwick (Jr., Billings, Mont.) made 30 saves in goal for the Tommies, who broke a three-game losing streak to improve to 10-6-0 overall, 7-0-0 in MIAC play. St. Thomas is ranked No. 8 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (www.uscho.com) Division III national poll.
Aaron Johnson * (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had a goal and an assist for Augsburg, now 6-9-3 overall, 2-4-3 in MIAC play. Augsburg has lost its last four straight games and five of its last six starts.
Augsburg opened the scoring, as
Dan Leopold (So., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored 5:33 into the game, but St. Thomas tied it on a power-play goal from Brandon Wilcox (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) at the 17:24 mark.
Ryan Hoehn (So., Waseca, Minn.) and Rollwagen scored for the Tommies in the second period to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.
Joe Haehn (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) scored a power-play goal 3:04 into the third period to cut the Tommie advantage to 3-2, but Harris scored twice, at the 5:50 and 14:26 marks, to give the Tommies the lead to stay. Augsburg's Johnson scored at the 15:33 mark.
Nick Pernula (So., Osseo, Minn.) had three assists for St. Thomas.
Augsburg outshot St. Thomas by a 33-32 margin.
Tony Ciro (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) made 27 saves for the Auggies.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/28) at 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas Arena in Mendota Heights.
