St. Catherine pulls away from Augsburg in OT, claims 91-80 decision.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/4/06) -- Sarah Schneider (Jr., Shakopee, Minn.) scored 12 of her game-high 27 points in overtime, as her College of St. Catherine women's basketball team outscored Augsburg College 20-9 in the extra session, en route to a 91-80 victory in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

Schneider scored a double-double for the Wildcats, collecting 27 points and 12 rebounds. She went 3-for-4 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the overtime session, also pulling down four rebounds.

St. Catherine is now 5-6 overall, 3-3 in MIAC play, while Augsburg drops to 3-7 overall, 1-5 in MIAC play, dropping its sixth game in a row. The game featured seven ties and 16 lead changes.

Augsburg rallied from a 41-33 halftime deficit to take a three-point lead, 71-68, with 10 seconds remaining in regulation time. Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) hit two free throws to give the Auggies the three-point lead. But Erin Petrich (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) connected on a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in regulation for St. Catherine, tying the game at 71-71.

After Augsburg took a three-point lead early in overtime, St. Catherine used an 11-2 run over a 2:33 span to take a lead it would not relinquish, an 84-78 advantage with 1:09 left. Schneider had eight points in the Wildcats' run. The Wildcats' 11-point margin of victory was its largest lead of the game.

Petrich had 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds for St. Catherine, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Rachel Berglund (So., Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd HS) had 16 points and four steals, and Ashley Busch (So., Fairfax, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Augsburg had six players score in double figures. Lurken claimed her second career double-double, with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) and Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had 15 points apiece, with LaGrave adding five rebounds and Stromquist adding four rebounds.

Alissa Blood (Jr., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored 12 points with four rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Auggies, while Michelle Richter (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) and Rachel Cherry (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) contributing 10 points apiece. Richter had eight rebounds, and Cherry had six rebounds.

Augsburg connected on 41.4 percent (29-of-70) of its field goals, while St. Catherine hit 40.3 percent (29-of-72) from the field. St. Catherine hit 28-of-39 free throws (71.8 percent), while Augsburg hit 18-of-23 (78.3 percent). Augsburg outrebounded St. Catherine by a 48-43 margin, but committed 25 turnovers to St. Catherine's 15.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (1/7) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Hamline and St. Catherine hosting Concordia-Moorhead.
