Hamline rallies in second half for 68-58 win over Augsburg.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/7/06) -- Jessica Heinen (Fr., New London, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half, as Hamline University overcame a halftime deficit to score a 68-58 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Heinen came off the bench to score 14 points with eight rebounds for the Pipers, who broke a two-game losing streak to improve to 5-5 overall, 2-4 in MIAC play.

Augsburg was led by Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) and Michelle Richter (Fr., Chaska, Minn.), who had 14 points apiece. Richter had six rebounds, while LaGrave had four rebounds. Augsburg is now 3-8 overall, 1-6 in MIAC play, losing its seventh straight game.

Augsburg hit 42 percent (21-of-50) from the field, but committed 31 turnovers, which Hamline converted into 30 points. Augsburg scored just nine points off of 19 Hamline turnovers. Hamline also claimed 27 points from its bench, compared to just nine for Augsburg.

Allison Bratsch (So., New London, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 11 points and five assists for the Pipers, while Kelly Lines (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) had 10 points.

The Auggies jumped out to an early six-point lead, 13-7, and led 20-15 with 3:21 left before Hamline rallied to trim the lead to 24-23 at halftime.

Trailing 47-44 with 9:39 remaining, Hamline went on a 16-4 run to take a lead it would not relinquish, 60-51 with 5:09 left. Heinen had five points in the run, while Ashlee Senser (Jr., Edina, Minn./Hopkins HS) had four points. Augsburg cut the lead to five points, but Hamline pulled ahead again to lead by as many as 13 points in the closing minute.

Senser had six points and nine rebounds for Hamline, while Laurisa Ewert (Sr., Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) collected eight points, six rebounds and seven steals. Carolyn Korchik (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had six points, four rebounds and four steals, and Ashley Vorwerk (So., Gibbon, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had six points.

Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Auggies, while Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) scored seven points with five rebounds and three assists. Noreen Hogan (Fr., Moline, Ill./Alleman HS) had six points.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/11) at 5:45 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Concordia-Moorhead and Hamline playing at St. Mary's.
