Augsburg rallies twice from 2-goal deficits, but falls to No. 7-ranked Wisconsin-River Falls, 5-4.

MINNEAPOLIS (11/10/06) -- T.J. Dahl (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) scored the first and last goals of the game, including the game-winner on an unassisted tally with 3:24 remaining, as the University of Wisconsin-River Falls claimed a 5-4 victory over host Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Dahl scored his first goal of the game on the power play just 2:41 into the game from Jim Henkemeyer (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) and Derek Hansberry (So., Arvada, Colo.), then finished the game with his unassisted tally at the 16:36 mark, as the Falcons improved to 4-1-0 overall. Wisconsin-River Falls is ranked No. 7 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (www.uscho.com) Division III national rankings.

Augsburg rallied twice from two-goal deficits to tie the game in the first and third periods, but could not claim the lead in falling to 0-3-0 overall. Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) and Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two assists apiece for the Auggies.

After Dahl's game-opening goal, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Pat Borgestad (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) at the 7:17 mark of the opening frame.

But Augsburg scored twice in the final 3:19 of the first period to tie the game, with Shawn Bakke (Sr., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scoring from Greg May (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Jacob Smith (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) at the 16:41 mark, then on a Tom Doyle (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) goal, from Nagurski and Chad Georgell * (Sr., North Pole, Alaska/Fairbanks Lathrop HS), at the 19:16 mark.

In the second period, the Falcons again took a two-goal lead, as Tyler Kostiuk (Sr., Cranbrook, British Columbia) scored from Tom Flikeid (So., Lakeville, Minn.) at the 5:46 mark, and Henkemeyer scored from Wade Harstad (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) at the 16:19 mark.

But 23 seconds after Henkemeyer's goal, the Auggies again cut into the advantage, as Brett Way (So., Grand Ledge, Minn.) scored from Johnson and Nagurski. The Auggies tied the game at 4-4 on a goal from Dan Leopold (Jr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS), assisted by Johnson, at the 7:40 mark of the third frame.

Augsburg outshot Wisconsin-River Falls by a 26-24 margin in the game. A.J. Bucchino (Jr., Bow, N.H.) made 22 saves for the Falcons, while Adam Hendel (Jr., Bay City, Wis./Red Wing (Minn.) HS) took the loss for the Auggies, with 19 saves.

Both teams have home nonconference games on Saturday (11/11) at 7:05 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Wisconsin-Stout at the Augsburg Ice Arena, and Wisconsin-River Falls hosting St. John's.
