Men's Hockey 11/22/06 -- Augsburg Thanksgiving Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS (11/22/06) -- The No. 7-ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior and host Augsburg College will meet in the championship game of the Augsburg Thanksgiving Tournament, after the two teams claimed victories on Wednesday night in action at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
In the opener, Wisconsin-Superior scored a 9-4 victory over Bethel University, while Augsburg claimed a 5-1 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.) in the nightcap.
Augsburg (2-4-1 overall) will face Wisconsin-Superior (6-1-0) in the championship game on Thursday (11/23) at 6 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. In the third-place game at 3 p.m., Bethel (1-4-0) will face Finlandia (3-2-0).

Critter Nagurski * had a goal and two assists as part of a four-goal second period for Augsburg, as the Auggies pulled away from Finlandia in the late game on Wednesday.
Brett Way and
Greg May had a goal and assist each for the Auggies.
Augsburg took an early lead, as
Shawn Bakke scored at the 9:49 mark of the first period. But Finlandia tied the game at the 11:39 mark of the period on the power play, as Mike Parks scored from Ryan Sullivan and Josh Paquette.
Augsburg took the lead for good at the 3:01 mark of the second period, as Nagurski scored.
A.J. Hau added his team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 12:33 mark, followed 57 seconds later by a power-play goal by Way. May completed the scoring for the Auggies with a goal at the 15:14 mark.
Augsburg outshot Finlandia by a 32-19 margin, including a 15-4 edge in the decisive second period.
Andy Kent made 18 saves in goal to claim the win for the Auggies, while Joe Juntilla had 27 saves in a losing effort for the Lions.
Aaron Johnson * and
Danny Carlson had two assists each for Augsburg.
Wisconsin-Superior 9, Bethel 4
Corey Lennartson, Chris Berry and Braden Desmet scored two goals apiece, each notching tallies as part of a five-goal third period, as the Yellowjackets pulled away from the Royals in Wednesday's opener.
Wisconsin-Superior trailed 2-1 halfway through the second period, but rallied to take a 4-3 lead entering the final frame. The Royals cut the lead to 5-4 at the 11:32 mark of the third period, but the Yellowjackets scored four goals in a 6:06 span -- three on the power play and one shorthanded goal -- to claim the triumph. The Yellowjackets outshot the Royals by a 19-5 margin in the third period to claim a 37-36 advantage in shots-on-goal in the game.
Berry added an assist for a three-point night, while David Moncur and Seth Reda had three assists apiece for the Yellowjackets. Andrew MacKenzie, Corey Stark and Aaron Berman also scored goals for Wisconsin-Superior, while Matt Lamirande and Derek Paige had two assists each.
Nick Miller and Dan Bonne had a goal and assist each for Bethel, while Neal Carlson and Benoit Duhamel had the other Royal goals.
Chad Beiswenger claimed the win in goal for the Yellowjackets with 32 saves, while Aaron Damjanovich had 28 saves in a losing effort for the Royals.
