NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/1/06) -- In men's hockey, Augsburg College and St. Olaf College are literally "fit to be tied."
For the seventh straight time in the series between the two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools, the teams skated to an overtime tie, as the Auggies and Oles finished 4-4 in overtime on Friday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
The teams have played to ties in each game between the two schools since the 2003-04 season. With the draw, Augsburg ran its unbeaten streak against St. Olaf to 12 straight games (5-0-7), dating to the 2000-01 season.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (12/2) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) scored twice for Augsburg, while
Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had a goal and assist for the Auggies.
Nick Stalock (So., South St. Paul, Minn.) opened the scoring for the Oles with a goal from Casey Dynan (So., Orono, Minn.) at the 4:29 mark of the first period.
Augsburg took the lead in the second, as Johnson scored an unassisted goal at the 4:39 mark, and Nagurski scored on the power play from
Chad Georgell * (Sr., North Pole, Alaska/Fairbanks Lathrop HS) at the 15:19 mark. St. Olaf tied the game 1:51 later, as Ben Umhoefer (Fr., Marshfield, Wis.) scored an unassisted goal.
Chris Johnson (Fr., Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) scored from
Shawn Bakke (Sr., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) on the power play for the Auggies at the 3:59 mark of the third period, but Jeff Budish (Jr., Edina, Minn.) tied the game on a shorthanded, unassisted goal at the 6:08 mark. Augsburg took the lead back on Nagurski's second goal of the game, a tally from
Aaron Johnson * at the 7:32 mark. The Oles tied the game at the 12:23 mark of the frame, as John Paulson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored from Budish.
St. Olaf had a 25-17 shots-on-goal advantage in the contest, including a 12-6 advantage in the third period.
Andy Kent (So., Lakeville, Minn.) made 21 saves for the Auggies, while Jeff Wilde (Sr., Watertown, S.D.) had 13 saves for St. Olaf.
