Eight straight ties between Augsburg and St. Olaf -- teams play to 2-2 OT draw on Saturday!

MINNEAPOLIS (12/2/06) -- For the eighth straight game over the past four seasons in the men's hockey series between Augsburg College and St. Olaf College, the teams skated to an overtime tie, as the Auggies and Oles finished 2-2 in overtime on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams have played to ties in each game between the two schools since the 2003-04 season. With the draw, Augsburg ran its unbeaten streak against St. Olaf to 13 straight games (5-0-8), dating to the 2000-01 season.

Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had a goal and assist for the Auggies in the second period, as the Auggies rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit to claim the tie.

St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 39-32 margin. Both teams had one shot on goal in the five minutes of overtime.

St. Olaf scored twice in the first period, with John Paulson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scoring an unassisted, power-play goal at the 5:02 mark, and Brett Kistner (Jr., Peoria, Ill.) scoring from Sam Windsor (So., Plymouth, Minn.) at the 12:50 mark.

Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the game for the Auggies at the 1:15 mark of the second period, a power-play tally from Danny Carlson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) and Johnson.

Johnson tied the game with his third goal of the season, also on the power play, from A.J. Hau (Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.) at the 13:24 mark of the second period.

Andy Kent (So., Lakeville, Minn.) made 37 saves for the Auggies, while Jeff Wilde (Sr., Watertown, S.D.) had 30 saves for St. Olaf.

Both teams have MIAC series next weekend. Augsburg faces Bethel on Friday and Saturday (12/8-9), while St. Olaf faces St. John's on Saturday and Sunday (12/9-10).
