NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/2/06) --
Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) claimed her third collegiate hat trick with a three-goal night, as her Augsburg College women's hockey team claimed a 6-6, overtime tie with St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Augsburg led 5-1 midway through the second period, but St. Olaf claimed five of the next six goals scored to tie the game and force overtime.
Emily Merhar (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Sara Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) collected their first collegiate goals for the Auggies, and
Andrea Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had the other goal for Augsburg, now 0-4-3 overall, 0-2-2 in MIAC play.
Airien Grimstad (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS),
Jackie Keller * (Jr., Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS),
Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) and goalie
Toni Menth (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) had assists for the Auggies in the game.
Kim McClintick had two goals and two assists for St. Olaf, now 2-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 in MIAC play. Susannah Brokl had two goals and an assist, and Tessa Christensen and Katie Bennett had the other Ole goals, with Christensen adding an assist. Lindsay Boeser had three assists for the Oles, while Laura Wild had two assists.
St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 49-33 margin, including a 26-9 edge in the second period. Menth made 43 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Sarah Mills had 22 saves for the Oles, with Shannon Herrick recording five saves in relief.
Both teams have MIAC series next Friday and Saturday (12/8-9), with Augsburg playing Bethel and St. Olaf playing St. Benedict.
