MINNEAPOLIS (12/8/06) -- Amy Beitzel (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had a goal and assist, as the Bethel University women's hockey team claimed a 3-2 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Bethel scored twice in a 33-second span late in the second period to take a 3-1 lead en route to the victory, improving to 4-3-0 overall, 3-2-0 in MIAC play.

Whitney Restemayer (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Jackie Keller * (Jr., Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS) scored goals for Augsburg, now 0-5-3 overall, 0-3-2 in MIAC play.

The teams complete the MIAC series, the last series for both teams before the holiday break, on Saturday (12/9) at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Arena in Fridley, Minn.

Augsburg opened the scoring at the 4:15 mark of the first period, as Restemayer scored her first collegiate goal, with an assist coming from Emily Merhar (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.). Beitzel tied the game for the Royals with an unassisted goal on a scramble in front of the net at the 12:29 mark.

At the 16:29 mark of the second frame, Bethel's Sandra Felten (So., Cashton, Wis.) scored her conference-leading (overall statistics) 11th goal of the season, a power-play marker from Bethany Murphy (So., Grand Rapids, Minn.). Thirty-three seconds later, Anna Baumgarten (So., Elmhurst, Ill.) scored for the Royals, from Beitzel and Mary Foster (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.).

Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 15-2 margin in the second period, but Augsburg claimed a 14-6 edge in the shots department in the third period, with Keller notching her first goal of the season at the 5:11 mark, with an assist credited to Jess Olson (Fr., Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS).

Bethel claimed a 31-29 advantage in shots on goal. Beth Spurrier (So., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) made 27 saves for the Royals, while Toni Menth (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) made 28 saves for the Auggies.
