MINNEAPOLIS (12/9/06) --
Andy Kent (So., Lakeville, Minn.) claimed 31 saves for Augsburg College, while Aaron Damjanovich (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.) claimed 24 saves for Bethel University, as the two goaltenders claimed shutouts in a 0-0 overtime tie in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey action on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
It is the first scoreless tie for Augsburg since a 0-0 tie with Concordia-Moorhead on Feb. 12, 1999, and Augsburg's third overtime tie in its last four games.
Augsburg moves to 3-5-4 overall and 2-0-4 in MIAC play, while Bethel is 4-5-1 overall, 2-1-1 in MIAC play. Combined with a 5-1 win on Friday night, Augsburg took three of four points from the Royals in the weekend series.
Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 31-24 margin, including a 24-14 edge through two periods. Bethel claimed a 6-5 edge in shots in the third period, but Augsburg had five shots on goal to Bethel's one in the five minutes of overtime.
Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had six shots on goal for the Auggies, while
Brett Way (So., Grand Ledge, Mich.) had four shots.
Kellen Chamblee (So., Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Chris Johnson (Fr., Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) had three shots apiece.
For Bethel, Steve Eastman (Sr., Edina, Minn.) had six shots on goal, while Brad Peterson (So., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had five shots. Jeff Balvin (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Kent Bostrom (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View HS) had three shots apiece.
Augsburg has a nonconference game against Wisconsin-Stevens Point next Saturday (12/16) at 2:15 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Bethel returns to action after the holiday break with a nonconference game at Wisconsin-River Falls on Jan. 6 at 7:05 p.m.
