Augsburg closes season at 7-18 overall with 67-41 win over Macalester!

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/18/06) – Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) led all scorers with 17 points, adding six rebounds, six steals and three assists, leading Augsburg College to a season-ending 67-41 victory over Macalester College in a nonconference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Macalester Gymnasium.

Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) added 13 points for the Auggies, who finished their season at 7-18 overall, the most victories for an Augsburg women's basketball squad since the 2001-02 season (8-17). All 11 Augsburg players saw game action and scored in the contest.

Macalester, playing a nonconference schedule this season before rejoining the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for women's basketball next year, finishes 2-21 overall.

Augsburg led from start to finish in the game. The Auggies slowly built a double-digit lead, then used a 14-4 run over the final 6:38 of the first half to take a 37-21 lead at intermission. Augsburg built the lead to as many as 26 points in the second half.

The Auggies forced 24 Macalester turnovers, which they converted into 26 points. Augsburg outrebounded Macalester by a 42-36 margin and collected 30 points in the paint to Macalester's 12. Augsburg hit 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field, compared to 31.3 percent (15-of-48) for the Scots.

Brietta Schluender (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored nine points for Augsburg, while Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) and Marissa Lindback (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had six points each, with Lurken adding six assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Macalester was led by Elise Pagel (Fr., Appleton, Wis./North HS), who had 15 points, six rebonds and two steals. Deidre Jackson (So., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds, and Louisa Bigelow (Sr., Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township HS) had six points.
