Gustavus completes sweep with 8-2 win over Augsburg

ST. PETER, Minn. (2/18/06) -- Mari Gunderson (Fr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a goal and two assists, and Jenny Pusch (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels HS), Brigitte Bartholdi (Fr., Cloquet, Minn.), Molly Doyle (So., Eagan, Minn.) and Andrea Peterson (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a goal and an assist apiece, as Gustavus Adolphus College completed a series sweep of visiting Augsburg College with an 8-2 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday afternoon at the Don Roberts Ice Arena.

Jessica Doig (Fr., New Prague, Minn.), Ingrid Neve (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS) and Sarah Heinbinger (Fr., Stillwater, Minn./North St. Paul HS) also scored for the Gusties, and Kelly Crandall (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong HS) had two assists.

Gustavus, ranked No. 4 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (www.uscho.com) Division III national poll, is now 18-3-2 overall, 15-0-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg is now 7-13-3 overall, 6-7-3 in MIAC play.

Gustavus took a 1-0 lead after one period on a power-play goal by Gunderson. Augsburg tied the game 2:12 into the second period, as Tiffany Magnuson (Fr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) scored the first of her two goals in the game.

But Gustavus ran off seven unanswered goals -- four in the second and three in the third -- to clinch the victory. Magnuson scored her second goal fo the game from Caryn Quist (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) with 34 seconds left to play. Magnuson now has a team-leading 21 goals and 27 points on the season.

Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 47-11 margin -- including a 16-0 advantage in the first period. Amanda Rosequist (Fr., Edina, Minn./Breck HS) made nine saves for Gustavus, while Jena Kleis (So., Hastings, Minn.) made 39 saves for Augsburg.

Augsburg closes its regular season with a two-game series against Concordia-Moorhead, with both games at the Augsburg Ice Arena, next Friday (2/24) at 7:05 p.m. and next Saturday (2/25) at 2:15 p.m. Gustavus faces St. Benedict in a two-game series, with Friday's game at 7:30 p.m. in St. Cloud and Saturday's game at 7 p.m. in St. Peter.
