Calla Lundquist (Sr., Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County HS) scored the lone goal of the game with five seconds remaining in the first period, and
Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) stopped all 16 shots she faced to record her fourth collegiate shutout, as Augsburg College claimed a 1-0 win over visiting Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg, which finished the regular season 8-14-3 overall, 7-8-3 in MIAC play, remained in the hunt for the final berth in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs after the win. But the Auggies saw their season end later on Saturday, as St. Mary's claimed a 5-3 victory at Bethel to wrap up the final conference playoff berth. Augsburg finished with 17 conference points, but St. Mary's (11-11-3 overall, 8-7-3 MIAC) ended with 19 conference points. Gustavus, St. Thomas, Bethel and St. Olaf had already clinched the other playoff berths.
St. Mary's will play at No. 4-seed St. Olaf in the "play-in game" on Tuesday (2/28) at 7 p.m., with the winner playing at top-seed Gustavus on Thursday (3/2) at 7 p.m. in a playoff semifinal. No. 3 Bethel will play at No. 2 St. Thomas in the other semifinal on Thursday at 4 p.m., and the semifinal winners will meet for the conference playoff title next Saturday (3/4).
Concordia finishes its season at 6-14-3 overall, 6-10-2 in MIAC play.
In Saturday's game, Lundquist scored from
Caryn Quist (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) and
Jenny Schmidt (So., North St. Paul, Minn.) on a shot in front of the net, capping a first period in which Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 15-4 margin. Augsburg ended up outshooting Concordia by a 32-16 margin in the game.
Bockmann made 16 saves to pick up her third shutout of the season, and fourth of her career. Jenna Johnson (Sr., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek HS) made 31 saves for Concordia.
