ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/6/06) -- Laurisa Ewert (Sr., Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) led five players in double figures with 21 points, as Hamline University defeated visiting Augsburg College 79-60 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Hutton Arena.
Ewert scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in the first half, while the Pipers (11-10 overall, 7-9 MIAC) opened up a 45-28 halftime lead. In all, Ewert went 9-of-15 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Pipers moved into a temporary tie for the sixth and final MIAC postseason playoff spot. If the Pipers made the playoffs, it would be Hamline's first postseason berth in school history.
Jessica Heinen (Fr., New London, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) came off the bench to score 15 points. Kelly Lines (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) had 13 points -- 11 in the first half. Ashlee Senser (Jr., Edina, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Krystal Tschumperlin (Fr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) each tallied 10 points.
The Pipers shot 47 percent in the first half (17-of-36). Augsburg (5-16 overall, 3-14 MIAC) could get no closer than 11 points in the second half.
Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds to lead Augsburg.
Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) added 19 points for the Auggies.
Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) and
Michelle Richter (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) scored six points apiece.
Augsburg was held to 9-of-30 shooting in the first half (30 percent) and 34 percent (21-of-62) for the game.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday (2/8) at 5:45 p.m. Hamline will host St. Mary's, while Augsburg will host Concordia-Moorhead at Si Melby Hall.
