Stromquist's double-double leads Augsburg to 64-60 upset win over MIAC playoff-bound Concordia-Moorhead!

MINNEAPOLIS (2/6/06) -- Claiming her third double-double of the season in her final home game with 24 points and 11 rebounds, Rosinta Stromquist (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) led Augsburg College to a 64-60 upset victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg claimed just its second-ever victory over Concordia since the teams began playing each other in women's basketball in the 1978-79 season. Concordia is now 49-2 all-time against Augsburg, with the other Auggie win coming on Jan. 23, 2002 with a 56-55 triumph at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg is now 6-16 overall, 4-14 in MIAC play, having won two of its last four contests. Concordia, which has already clinched a spot in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs, is now 16-6 overall, 13-4 in MIAC play. The Cobbers lost for just the second time in their last 10 contests.

Augsburg led 33-23 at halftime, closing the first half on a 14-2 run over the last 6:12 of the stanza. The Auggies claimed their biggest lead, 15 points at 44-29 with 14:20 left in the second half, before Concordia charged back into the game. Trailing by 13 points with 8:47 left, the Cobbers cut the lead to three points, 52-49 with 5:59 left, on a 12-2 run. But the Cobbers could not cut the lead under three points the rest of the way.

Stromquist scored 12 points in each half for the Auggies, going 9-of-13 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. She also had two steals and a blocked shot.

Kristina Lurken (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) scored 13 points with six rebounds and seven assists for Augsburg, while Jacci Mattern (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had nine points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Alissa Blood (Jr., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) and Brietta Schluender (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had six points apiece, and Katie LaGrave (So., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) had five assists and three steals.

Concordia was led by Melanie Hageman (So., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS), who had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Annie Keeley (Jr., Grafton, N.D.) had 19 points, six assists and two steals, and Tori Ehlert (Sr., Battle Lake, Minn.) had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (2/11) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Gustavus and Concordia hosting Bethel.
