Danny Carlson scores 13 seconds into OT, Augsburg tops St. Scholastica 2-1

MINNEAPOLIS (1/12/07) -- Danny Carlson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal 13 seconds into overtime, as Augsburg College claimed a 2-1 victory over the College of St. Scholastica in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Off the opening draw of overtime, Augsburg gained possession and on its initial rush, a pass from behind the net found Carlson in front, and he put the puck into the net for his first goal of the season. Shawn Bakke (Sr., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Jacob Smith (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) received assists on Carlson's game-winner. Smith transferred this season to Augsburg from St. Scholastica.

Augsburg is now 5-5-4 overall, extending its unbeaten streak to six straight games (3-0-3). It was Augsburg's fourth overtime game in its last six contests. St. Scholastica falls to 8-7-1 overall.

Augsburg opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the game, as Ben Bradbury (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate HS) scored his first goal of the season on a slapshot from the left point. Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) assisted on the goal.

Four minutes later, St. Scholastica tied the game, as Jake Nelson (So., Superior, Wis.) scored on a rebound in front of the net from Joey Martini (So., Calgary, Alberta) and Kyle Luschinski (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba).

The teams played scoreless hockey for the next 55 minutes, as St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 27-18 margin in the game. Adam Hendel (Jr., Bay City, Wis./Red Wing, Minn., HS) gained his first victory in an Auggie uniform in goal, stopping 26 shots. Tyler Johnson (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) took the loss for the Saints, with 18 saves.
