MINNEAPOLIS (1/19/07) -- Kara Ledel (Fr., Shakopee, Minn.) collected her first collegiate hat trick with a three-goal night, including two power-play goals, as her University of St. Thomas women's hockey team claimed a 4-0 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Ledel scored her first goal at the 2:01 mark of the first period, then added two power-play goals in a 51-second span midway through the second period to lead the Tommies (8-4-0 overall, 6-1-0 MIAC).
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg (3-8-3 overall, 0-5-2 MIAC) by a 40-14 margin, with
Toni Menth (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) collecting 36 saves in goal for the Auggies.
Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame HS) and
Sara Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had four shots apiece for the Auggies, while
Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) had two shots on goal.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/20) at 2 p.m. at the St. Thomas Arena at St. Thomas Academy High School in Mendota Heights, Minn.
Ledel opened the scoring with a goal from Katie Carrico (Fr., Edina, Minn.) in the opening frame. In the second period, St. Thomas scored three power-play goals in a 6:05 span. Jill Kobow (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored from Jenny Schnaible (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Courtney Sekevitch (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) at the 6:38 mark, Ledel claimed an unassisted goal at the 11:54 mark, and Ledel completed her hat trick with a goal from Allison Turgeon (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Jackie Carroll (So., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) at the 12:43 mark.
Lauren Bradel (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) stopped all 14 shots she faced for her third shutout of the season.
