Men's Hockey 1/20/07 -- St. Thomas 7, Augsburg 3

MINNEAPOLIS (1/20/07) -- Nick Harris (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) scored the last two goals of the game as part of a four-goal third-period outburst by the University of St. Thomas, as the Tommies claimed a 7-3 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Harris ended up with a three-point (two goals, one assist) night for the Tommies, who claimed the series sweep in improving to 7-8-0 overall, 3-3- 0 in MIAC play. Nick Pernula (Jr., Osseo, Minn.) had a goal and two assists, while Tom Knutson (So., Duluth, Minn./East HS) and Kevin Rollwagen (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had two assists each.
Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS),
Tom Doyle (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) and
A.J. Hau (Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.) scored goals for Augsburg, now 5-8-4 overall, 2-2-4 in MIAC play.
Tied at 1-1 after one period, St. Thomas took a 3-1 lead with two goals in a 1:21 span of the second period, on goals from A.J. Panchenko (So., Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) and Alex Coles (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.). But Augsburg tied the game just as quick, with two goals in a 1:10 span, with Doyle and Hau scoring.
But the Tommies took control in the third period, outshooting the Auggies by a 14-9 margin and scoring four goals -- from Andrew Panchenko (Jr., Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS), Joe McEnaney (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and the last two from Harris.
Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.),
Chad Georgell * (Sr., North Pole, Alaska/Fairbanks Lathrop HS),
Shawn Bakke (Sr., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and
Chris Johnson (Fr., Vernoa, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) had assists for the Auggies.
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 33-26 margin and converted two power-play goals on five opportunities. Augsburg had one power-play goal in three opportunities. Cameron Voss (So., Shoreview, Minn./St. Thomas Academy HS) collected 23 saves in goal for the win for the Tommies, while
Andy Kent (So., Lakeville, Minn.) had 26 saves for the Auggies.
Augsburg is idle next weekend and returns to action with a series Feb. 2-3 against St. John's. St. Thomas returns to action next weekend (1/26-27) with a series, also against St. John's.
