Augsburg tops St. Catherine 5-2

MINNEAPOLIS (1/26/07) -- With five different players scoring goals, the Augsburg College women's hockey team claimed its second straight victory, a 5-2 triumph over the College of St. Catherinein a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday night at Ridder Arena.

Katie Johnson (Jr., Montrose, Minn./Wayzata HS), scored a goal and added an assist for the Auggies, now 5-8-3 overall, 2-5-2 in MIAC play.

Kaytlyn Mount scored both goals for St. Catherine, now 0-14-1 overall, 0-8-1 in MIAC play. The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/27) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Jess Olson (Fr., Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first period. Sara Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored at the 1:10 mark of the second period, and after a Mount goal from Angela M. Johnson at the 5:07 mark, Johnson put in an unassisted goal 92 seconds later.

In the third period, Andrea Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored a goal from Johnson at the 12:14 mark, while Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame HS) scored her team-high 14th goal of the season at the 16:30 mark, from Caryn Quist (So., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS). Mount finished the scoring with a goal from Ayrn Ball at the 18:46 mark.

Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 36-24 margin. Toni Menth (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) collected 22 saves in goal to score the win, while Jessi McGehee made 31 saves in goal for the loss for the Wildcats.
