Women's basketball defeats Augsburg, 75-71

Sophomore Jess Heinen tallied 20 points to lead Hamline to a 75-71 win over Augsburg Wednesday night at Hutton Arena.
The Pipers (11-8, 9-7 in the MIAC) took control of the game in the second half, erasing a 30-29 halftime deficit with a 17-5 run. Heinen scored 13 of her points in the first six minutes of the half.
Augsburg (1-18, 1-15) would not go away - cutting the lead to three with 4:30 to play, but Hamline would win the free throw shooting contest down the stretch. In a game featuring 81 free throws, the Pipers connected on 27-of-45 attempts - 18-of-26 in the second half alone. Augsburg was 24-of-36 from the line.
Heinen led three Pipers in double figures. Krystal Tschumperlin totaled 15 points while Grace Weinreich added 11 points off the bench. Senior Ashlee Senser pulled down 14 rebounds for Hamline, who outrebounded the Auggies 58-43 in the game.
Michelle Richter netted a game-high 21 points, shooting 11-of-14 from the charity stripe for Augsburg.
Kristina Lurken * chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Brietta Schluender had 12 points, and Katie LaGrace scored 10 points.
Hamline shot 31.8 percent from the field to earn the win (21-66). Augsburg was 30.1 percent from the floor (22-73).
The Pipers will host Concordia Saturday at Hutton Arena. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
