MINNEAPOLIS (10/16/07) -- Shannon Kresky (Sr., Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) scored from Sarah Bartlette (So., East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Sara Olson (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) in the 41st minute, providing the lone goal for the College of St. Scholastica in a 1-0 victory over host Augsburg College in a nonconference women's soccer game on Tuesday night at Edor Nelson Field.

On a counter-attack, Olson fed Bartlette, who found Kresky to the right of Augsburg goalkeeper Jenny Kieffaber (Fr., Lakeville, Minn./Burnsville HS). Kresky put the ball in the net for her 11th goal of the season.

With the win, St. Scholastica is now 14-2-1 overall, while Augsburg is now 7-6-3 overall. Augsburg was missing three starters due to injury and played 16 different players in the nonconference game.

"I knew coming into the game that it would be very close, especially since we were missing three starters," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "St. Scholastica capitalized on a counter-attack situation where we were pressing forward, and got too many people pushed up and unorganized defensively. We still had plenty of opportunities to change the outcome; we just weren't able to finish our chances tonight. Nevertheless, we there still were some positives tonight. Jenny Kieffaber was solid in goal, and we had several players who have not played much step up and give us good minutes tonight."

Kieffaber, making her first collegiate start in goal and just her third appearance of the season, collected six saves for the Auggies. Meanwhile, St. Scholastica goalkeeper Kelly Momsen (Sr., Austin, Minn.) picked up her eighth shutout of the season with an eight-save effort. St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by an 18-17 margin in the game.

Kelsey Watsabaugh (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS) had four shots for the Auggies, while Lacey Hoover (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Central HS), Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) and Angie Neuhaus (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had three shots apiece.

Robin Johnson (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) had four shots for the Saints, while Kresky, OlsonBetsey Palmiscno and (Sr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) had three shots each.

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (10/20) with its last home game of the regular season, hosting Bethel at 6 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. St. Scholastica returns to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday (10/19) at 3 p.m. at Northwestern-Roseville.

"Although we are disappointed and feel we should have done better, we got to rest some key players tonight and should be ready for our big game on Saturday against Bethel," Navarre said.
