Augsburg rallies for victory in five games at national No. 23-ranked Bethel!

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/20/07) -- Kristina Lurken (Sr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) claimed a team-high 18 kills with 10 digs and a block, and Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) had 16 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks, as Augsburg College rallied from a two-game deficit to score a win in five games in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon at Bethel's Robertson Center.

Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) claimed eight kills, 18 assists, 11 digs, two service aces and six blocks (one solo) for the Auggies, now 12-15 overall, 3-6 in MIAC play. The 12th win for Augsburg marks its most victories in a single season since 2001 (12-18).

Bethel, ranked No. 23 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national poll, is now 21-6 overall, 6-3 in MIAC play.

Augsburg rallied after dropping the first two games by scores of 30-24 and 30-22. The Auggies won the final three games by scores of 31-29, 30-20 and 15-13. The win was the second five-game victory for the Auggies in as many days, after beating St. Mary's in five games on Friday.

In the deciding fifth game, Augsburg built leads of 4-0 and 10-5 before Bethel rallied to tie the game at 13-13. But Augsburg scored the last two points on kills by Lurken and Melissa Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.).

The Auggies began their rally in the third game, as Lurken had five kills and Jenkins had four kills, two aces and two blocks (one solo). Augsburg trailed 16-9 and 26-20 in the third game, but rallied with an 11-3 run to take the game. In the fourth game, Augsburg jumped out to leads of 9-2 and 20-12 en route to the victory. Harms and Lurken had five kills apiece for the Auggies.

Bethel was paced by Liz Glesne, who had 24 kills, 28 digs and four blocks (one solo). Kelly Otto had 14 kills and three blocks, while Amy Anderson, Jennifer Stoa and Chelsea Falck had 11 kills apiece. Stoa had six blocks and Falck had four blocks. Laura Naig had 62 assists and 11 digs, while Joslin Geisler had 30 digs, Kayla Smith had 14 digs and Bethany Shearer had 11 digs.

Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.) had eight kills and a block for Augsburg, while Amanda Rueb (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had three blocks (one solo). Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 30 assists and 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 25 digs, Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 10 digs and Dani Tanaka (So., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 11 digs.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (10/24) at 7 p.m., hosting St. Catherine at Si Melby Hall. Bethel competes at Concordia-Moorhead on Tuesday (10/23) at 7 p.m.
