MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/3/07) -- With a 19-kill, 25-dig performance, Concordia College-Moorhead right-side hitter Michelle Honek broke the school's career record for digs, as the Cobbers swept visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Wednesday night at Memorial Auditorium. Game scores were 30-26, 30-26, 30-23.
Augsburg (8-11 overall, 1-5 MIAC) was led by Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.), who had 12 kills, 12 digs and two service aces. Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) had eight kills and two blocks (two solo), and Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had seven kills, seven digs and two service aces.
Concordia (10-4 overall, 5-1 MIAC) is ranked No. 12 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national poll. Honek now has 1,075 career digs, breaking the old mark of 1,067, set by Angie Carlin from 1994-96.
Abby Scheel recorded 10 kills and two blocks (two solo) for the Cobbers, while Maggie Olson had eight kills and two blocks, and Valerie Glynn had seven kills and four blocks (one solo). Jill Hance and Alyssa Dahl had 24 assists apiece, and Anna Tinkham had 27 digs.
For Augsburg, Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.) had six kills, six digs and a solo block. Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 32 assists. Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 21 digs and Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 11 digs.
Augsburg is idle until next Wednesday (10/10) at 7 p.m., when it plays at St. Olaf. Concordia competes in the Border Battle Tournament on Friday and Saturday (10/5-6) at Simpson (Iowa).
